Everyone at NP has their own heartfelt story about meeting JG. He is a close friend and mentor to all of us, but the real magic started twelve years ago when Jack and our own Eli met. It was Eli's first time touring the UK after coming from Australia. He and Jack had spoken on Myspace after Jack discovered Eli's music on YouTube. Jack decided to buy a ticket and see his UK debut.
On the day of the show, Eli received a text from Jack saying, "So sorry to hear about the show." Eli had just landed at Heathrow and had no idea the gig had been cancelled due to flooding in the venue. Luckily for Eli, and Jack being Jack, he invited him down to Bournemouth to hang out, write, and maybe try some open mics.
It did not take long for the pair to realise they were two sides of the same coin. They shared that same spark in their eyes, aimed in the general direction of mischief. Two strangers bonding through music, about music, and with music.

HIS SOUND IS RAW BUT TRUE, WITH MEAN LICKS AND UNAPOLOGETIC EXPLORATORY PRODUCTION. FAMILIAR BUT SOMEHOW UNHEARD.
His music is honest to a fault, just like he is. All you really want from someone's art is to know them a little more and learn something about yourself in the process.
His earlier work leaned closer to the artists we mentioned before, but now he is in his own lane. Heartfelt songs about being overwhelmed by the cruel yet beautiful world of love and loss. The crippling loneliness you feel when you realise you are on your own figuring everything out.
Take MEAL DEAL for example. The first lyric is, "Crying over a meal deal, wish I wasn't feeling so emotional." That is the essence of his writing. More people should hear him, though Jack would not care either way. He is happy getting his thoughts out over a big dirty chord and that is why we love him.
Anyone who knows Jack knows his Bass Six is basically attached to him. He started playing it as a clever solution for needing to play both guitar and bass on Eli's album. What neither of them expected was that he would spend the next year learning that this instrument was made for him or he was made for it. It became a staple of his new sound.
PROJECT VI
The Bass Six builds the foundation of his latest project VI which includes Selfish, Fiction Prediction, VI, Easier, Paper Mache and Meal Deal. Unlike his earlier work, this new sound is unapologetically raw with heavy rhythms that hit hard. The project grew from a breakup and a long stretch of loneliness. He was alone but receiving long messages and calls from friends who cared, sad they could not be there to wrestle through it with him. He folds these feelings into the tracks with samples of voice notes that make the music even more powerful in its sentimentality and its ability to pull you into his world. Jack took something painful and turned it into something beautiful.
